Chef and owner Michael Caines marks the occasion with a Gala Dinner and reflects on the past year and the exciting developments on the horizon

London, March 2018…/ The UK’s most exciting new country house hotel in decades, Lympstone Manor opened to critical acclaim in April 2017. Created by Michael Caines MBE, one of Britain’s most celebrated chefs, the property has welcomed over 30,000 guests through its doors since it launched. Offering contemporary country house hospitality for the 21st century, the former home is set in 28 acres of Devon countryside with unrivalled views of the Exe Estuary. With a host of exciting developments ahead including the launch of their vineyard, which will be planted in the hotel’s grounds this spring, Lympstone Manor is delighted to celebrate this special anniversary with a Gala Dinner on Tuesday 3rd April 2018. The evening will consist of a Champagne reception followed by a five-course tasting menu with wine pairings from Michael and entertainment by jazz musicians The Swing Kings.

In just a year Lympstone Manor has received a flurry of accolades starting with Michelin awarding the restaurant with a star after only six months and being made a member of Relais & Châteaux within the same time. The incredible achievement was followed by a Trencherman’s 2018 Award for ‘Creativity and Innovation’ and being shortlisted for the SBID International Design Awards 2017 for ‘Hotel Bedroom & Suites.’ In addition, Lympstone Manor has received acclaim from publications in the UK and internationally such as The Sunday Times’ ‘Best Places to Stay 2017’, The Times ‘Top 50 Hotels 2017’, Tatler Travel Guide 2018, Tatler Restaurant Guide 2018, Travel + Leisure’s ‘It List 2018’, ‘Hotel Restaurant of the Year’ at the Devon Life Awards and has recently be shortlisted as ‘Best Hotel’ for the GQ Food & Drink Awards.

Born and raised near Exeter, Michael Caines has always been passionate about Devon and the local community and continues this legacy at Lympstone Manor. In addition to working with local suppliers and producers, the hotel has also engaged with the community through a series of events from a Williams Racing charity day Damon Hill and a fleet of F1 cars, raising money for Down Syndrome International and Down’s Syndrome Association UK. In addition, the hotel has hosted a guest chef dinner with Raymond Blanc, events with local artists as part of their Fine Art @ partnership and other charity initiatives supporting Families For Children, Farms for City Children, Exeter Foundation, and The National Trust.

Reflecting on a year since the hotel launched Michael Caines said “It’s hard to believe that just a year ago, the builders and craftsmen were still hard at work putting in the finishing touches; the furnishings and decorations had arrived in containers; the gleaming kitchens were almost ready to go, as we anticipated the opening of Lympstone Manor to the public on April 3rd. What a journey it was to get to the beginning!”

“As I look back, I realise that it was a journey that actually began when I was 19 years old and I went to work at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons. There I was inspired by Raymond Blanc, his remarkable cuisine that had no limits, as well as the very special country house hotel that he had created. So in a sense, my entire career, the formative years in France under Bernard Loiseau and Joël Robuchon, as well as more than two decades at Gidleigh Park, all led me to this moment and to the realisation of my dream.”

“I’m immensely proud of what we have achieved in a single year: membership of the Relais & Châteaux family and the award of a Michelin star and also the hugely positive comments from so many guests who have enjoyed their time with us, as well as from critics and reviewers. A year, however, is a very short time and there is so much more that we still have to achieve to make the Lympstone Manor experience even more exceptional for our valued guests. The vineyard will be planted this spring and additional plans are in the pipeline. It’s an exciting time and the work and new challenges never stop.”

“I would like to thank all of my team, who have worked tirelessly over the past year, in creating an amazing experience for our guests to enjoy here at Lympstone Manor and of course to the clients themselves who have frequented the hotel over the past 12 months, many of whom have returned several times. We look forward to welcoming old and new guests alike to Lympstone Manor for many years to come.”

The first anniversary Gala Dinner on 3rd April 2018 at Lympstone Manor starts from £240 per person including a Champagne reception, five course tasting menu from Michael Caines with a wine flight followed by entertainment from The Swing Kings. Overnight stays start from £795 based on two people sharing a double room including Champagne reception, five-course dinner with wine pairing. For reservations
