Jason Atherton’s The Blind Pig cocktail bar set to launch new ‘Long and Short Great British Tails’ menu inspired by classic British children’s stories

This January, Jason Atherton’s flagship bar, The Blind Pig, will launch a new cocktail list inspired by classic children’s literature. Part of the speakeasy’s first menu overhaul since opening its ‘hidden’ door above Michelin-starred Social Eating House in 2013, the selection of ten playfully titled ‘Long and Short Great British Tails’ will be joined by a further 9 cocktails new to the bar.

Designed by The Social Company’s Group Bar Executive, Jamie Jones, and The Blind Pig’s bar manager Dan Berger, the creative serves are an exercise in nostalgia with each element, from the name of the cocktail to the individual ingredients, intrinsically linked to a chosen tale. Dedicated to A.A Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh, Hunny Pot blends Havana 7 rum with salted butter, Crowded Hive mead (an alcohol created by fermenting water and honey), Somerset apple brandy, lemon, honey and orange bitters. Served in a clay honey pot, the cocktail also features a tribute to Winnie-the-Pooh’s sidekick, Piglet, with a garnish of a pig-shaped sweet. Inspired by one of the most successful British stories of all time, Half a Pint o’ Buttah is based on the tipple served at the Three Broomsticks Inn and across the wizarding world in J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter. Monkey Shoulder scotch will be added to bittersweet, botanical spirit, Kamm & Sons, with thyme, butterscotch, citrus, bitters and beer for a drink delicious to wizards and muggles alike, available on tap at The Blind Pig. For fans of Roald Dahl, Dream Jar, a nod to The BFG, will not disappoint. Featuring Ketel One vodka, Swedish punsch, apricot, lemon, vanilla & oregano, egg white, soda and ‘zozimus’ essence, the cocktail is served in jar with glowing ice cubes evoking the dream jars collected by the Big Friendly Giant in the tale.

To accompany each of the ‘Long and Short Great British Tails’, The Blind Pig have commissioned illustrator Masha Karpushina to design a bespoke artwork that captures the essence of the story inspiring each creation. These detailed drawings will sit alongside the cocktails within a menu that is designed to read like a story book and that will feature nine additional cocktails in signature Blind Pig style but incorporating new flavour combinations and techniques.

Commenting on the new menu, Jamie Jones says, “Everyone has a favourite story from their childhood, so the idea for this list was to capture these shared memories and bring them to life with a playful yet grown-up twist. Combined with Masha’s beautiful illustrations, I’m really excited to see The Blind Pig continue to lead in terms of creativity, innovation – and most importantly, flavour.”

Launching on 23rd January, The Blind Pig’s innovative ‘Long and Short Great British Tails’ menu is a nostalgic celebration of iconic British literature, set to reconfirm the bar’s position as a frontrunner in London’s cocktail bar scene.
