Press Release // London, 23 April 2018

The Rubens at The Palace hotel, overlooking the Royal Mews of Buckingham Palace, has opened a new Indian restaurant, The Curry Room, bringing a unique blend of Indian and South African flavours to the heart of Victoria’s new bustling restaurant scene. The three course menu features the finest ingredients and spices, and is served in a rich and warm setting finished with traditional Indian prints and Rajasthani hand embroideries. The ‘recipe’ for The Curry Room is simplicity, bursting with authentic flavour.

Chef Arun Kumar brings a wealth of experience from across India and the UK, having worked most recently as Speciality Chef at the Michelin-starred Tamarind, Mayfair. At The Curry Room, Kumar has worked alongside The Rubens’ Executive Chef Ben Kelliher as well as Kevin Joseph, Executive Chef at The Rubens’ sister property The Oyster Box Hotel in South Africa, famed for its incredible curry buffet, to create an irresistible all-inclusive menu.

Encompassing three courses, the selection includes spicy samosas and poppadums to start. Traditional KwaZulu-Natal curries follow, including Prawn & Chicken Curry, with ingredients and spices including tomato cream sauce, rice wine vinegar and fenugreek. Much-loved traditional Indian curries are also available, such as a Spicy Beef Vindaloo, full of tasty slow cooked beef, white wine vinegar, onions, tomato and Goan spices. Or, there is a classic Butter Chicken, simmered in saffron butter, chilli and coriander cream. All curries are served with basmati rice and traditional Indian bread, and presented Thali-style on a silver platter. For dessert, guests can embrace traditional Indian flavours and choose Indian influenced kulfi ice cream, or indulge in a Baked vanilla cheesecake, prepared to the legendary recipe of Red Carnation Hotels’ Founder & President, Bea Tollman. This all-inclusive three course menu is priced at just £35.00 per person. The wine list has been specially crafted to complement the dining experience with a selection of both old and new world wines, including some from The Ruben’s sister vineyard in South Africa, Bouchard Finlayson.

The Rubens at the Palace recently completed a spectacular multi-million-pound refurbishment, seeing upgrades to most rooms and guest areas, as well as a complete overhaul of the hotel’s various dining destinations including the striking red New York Bar, the hotel’s elegant fine dining restaurant The English Grill, The Curry Room and the soon-to-open new Leopard Bar.

Malcolm Hendry, General Manager of The Rubens at the Palace, said: “Our new Curry Room is an exciting addition, not only to the beautifully refurbished hotel but also to the local restaurant scene. Our talented Chef Kumar and our friendly Restaurant Manager Mohan Senchuri look forward to welcoming Londoners and visitors to join us for an authentic taste of India, right in the heart of vibrant Victoria.”

The Curry Room at The Rubens is open for dinner from Wednesday to Monday (closed Tuesday) from 17:30-21:00. The all-inclusive three course menu is priced at £35.00 per person.
